Academic Regalia - Caps and Gowns
Graduation is an exciting time at Kennesaw State University as student accomplishments are celebrated throughout campus, culminating with a commencement ceremony. In preparation for this significant occasion, it is essential graduates wear the appropriate new graduation attire and academic regalia. Please follow the guidelines listed below.
We recommend underneath the graduation gown, graduates wear dark, professional attire and shoes to complement the black academic regalia of Kennesaw State University. Academic regalia can be purchased through Jostens.
There are three options for ordering regalia for the Fall 2022 Commencement Ceremonies. Deadline dates are as follows:
- Thursday, September 1 – Order your regalia online from Jostens to pick up at the Graduation Celebration October 18 and 19 from 10 - 6 at the Kennesaw campus and October 20 from 10 - 5 at the Marietta campus.
- Tuesday, November 8 – Order online from Jostens by this date to have regalia shipped to your home address to guarantee delivery by December 13.
To purchase regalia from the KSU Bookstore:
- Friday, October 28 – Visit the KSU – Kennesaw or Marietta Bookstores, or order from the Bookstore online. Regalia may be purchased through the Commencement ceremony dates, December 13-15.
Undergraduate Degree
Undergraduate degree graduates should wear the new black gown with gold piping designed with two gold embroidered KSU school seals, black mortarboard (cap) and black and gold tassel. (Note: The tassel is worn on the right side of the mortarboard (cap) prior to the degree being conferred, and on the left side after the degree is conferred.)
Graduate or Specialist Degrees
Master's and Specialist degree graduates wear the new black gown with gold piping designed with two gold embroidered KSU school seal, a hood, and black mortarboard (cap) with black and gold tassel. Each hood has a separate color* based on the discipline and it is the most distinctive feature of this academic attire. Education Specialist hoods are somewhat different in that they are longer and wider than the master's hoods.
Doctoral Degrees
Doctoral Degree graduates wear a gold gown featuring black velvet panels and bars accented with the gold embroidered KSU seal. The cap is a six-corner black velvet tam with two gold tassels. The Doctoral hood is the most distinctive, using black with a gold and black satin lining and accented with the designated discipline color* in velvet.
See the KSU Bookstore for information on purchasing regalia, personalized announcements and other graduation items.
*For all academic purposes, the colors associated with the different disciplines, including trimmings of doctoral gowns, edging of hoods, and tassels of mortarboards (caps), are listed in the American Council on Education guidelines as follows:
